Many savers are looking for an account that can be operated by post. 30 Day Direct rewards you for saving whilst giving you the option to either give notice to withdraw your money, or to have immediate access with a penalty.

Is this account suitable for me?
This account is suitable for someone who can give 30 days notice of any withdrawal via the post.  It is not suitable for someone requiring a fixed rate of interest or someone not prepared to pay a penalty for instant access on withdrawals.  Neither is it suitable for someone who needs cash withdrawals, or who wishes to use a branch service.

How much can I invest?
The account must be opened with a minimum of £2,500; further deposits can be made up to a maximum of £250,000 per person (£500,000 for a joint account). The minimum balance at any time is £2,500.

How can I pay money in?
You can add to your account whenever you wish, simply post your passbook and a cheque to our Postal Account Centre at our Head Office address.  Cheques must be made payable to the account holder and not to the Society. You can also transfer funds from another account with the Society by post, and transfer from an account with a bank or another building society. To do this you will need our sort code 20-49-08 and our account number 70608386 and also your 30 Day Direct account number, which should be inserted in the roll or reference number field. Please note that certain banks do not automatically provide a roll or reference number field if you bank with them online. You may have to telephone them so that they can set up this information for you.  Our branch service is not available to postal account holders and no cash transactions are permitted.

Do I have access to my money?
You can have penalty-free access to your money if you give the Society 30 days written notice. Shorter notice periods are also available, but a penalty equal to the gross interest for the remainder of the 30 day notice period will be charged on the amount you withdraw. For example, if you are able to give 20 days notice, a penalty equal to 10 days gross interest is applicable. Instant access is permitted at any time, but a penalty equal to the full 30 days gross interest will be charged on the amount you withdraw.

How can I access my account?
By Post - You can request a transfer to another Society account or a cheque withdrawal via the post. Simply send your passbook(s) with a completed postal account withdrawal form or a signed covering letter, stating your withdrawal instructions, to our Postal Account Centre at our Head Office address. The minimum withdrawal by cheque is £100. Your cheque and passbook will be returned to your home address.
Or Online - You can request a cheque made payable to yourself, or transfer money to another Society account or to your current account. Simply register for You-View, our online account service.

How much interest can I earn?
See our Current Interest Rates. Your money will start earning interest for you from the date of receipt of your cheque(s).

How and when is interest paid?

Interest is paid annually on 31st December, or on the last day of each month. You can have the interest added to your 30 Day Direct account, paid into a bank account or transferred to another Society account (not applicable to all account types). If you choose to have your interest added to the account it will be subject to the same withdrawal conditions as the capital.
