Ashby Score Community Cash for the
Second Time!

The Martin Johnson Community Award was this year won by Ashby Rugby Club for the second year in a row. The award, which was introduced three years ago, is sponsored by Market Harborough Building Society and was set up to financially reward clubs for their commitment to developing mini and junior rugby. It was awarded to Ashby on both occasions for recognition of the clubs efforts in providing a safe, happy environment for children to take part in the sport as well as their work within the community.

As well as being awarded the prize fund of £750, from Market Harborough Building Society, the club were delighted to also receive a visit from Martin Johnson himself. Martin took training sessions with the under 9’s and under 14’s, held a questions and answers session as well as sign numerous autographs and pose for photos. Tim Westwood, Mini & Junior Chairman says "The Children all enjoyed the day tremendously and some were even eager to go to school on Monday to tell their mates all about it".

During the event they also managed to raise £1,200 through the sale of food and photos as well as a raffle. This is to be split between the clubs mini and junior section and Martin’s chosen charity, The Matt Hampson Trust.
