Market Harborough Building Society and
LOROS Unite!

Market Harborough Building Society and LOROS have joined together to provide savers with a very special account which gives them a good rate of interest at the same time as helping a worthwhile charity.

LOROS is a charitable organisation within Leicestershire and Rutland who help nearly 2,500 local people by offering support and care for terminally-ill patients and their families. They do not charge a fee for their services so rely on donations to help them continue their outstanding work.

Savers who choose an account from the Society’s range of Affinity accounts will receive interest on their savings while 1% of the average balance of the account will be paid across to LOROS annually. This will not reduce the account balance as the donation is made by the building society.

Mark Robinson, Chief Executive at the Society commented "We have huge admiration for the Hospice and its work and are happy to invite our customers to help support it on an ongoing basis".

LOROS’ Fundraising Manager, Diane Morris, said "This initiative has the potential to be a valuable source of funding and we are pleased to have the Society as a partner."

The Affinity Accounts will be available from 16th June from any of the Society’s branches, agency or by internet and includes a range of instant access, notice and regular saver products.

Market Harborough Building Society was established in the south Leicestershire town of Market Harborough in 1870. With assets now exceeding £419m, nearly 50,000 savings customers and 9,000 mortgage customers, the Society has grown steadily and prudently over the last 138 years.

The Society is committed to supporting the local community and continues to provide sponsorship to local schools, charities and community based organisations. In addition Market Harborough Building Society Charitable Foundation, which is funded by the Society, provides grants to many local good causes in the Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland area.

LOROS is an independent charity, established in 1977 providing a hospice service to people within Leicestershire and Rutland. They were founded by local voluntary effort and are unable to provide the same level of service without the commitment, energy and enthusiasm of the current volunteers.

The Leicestershire and Rutland Hospice is a specialist centre providing skilled nursing and medical care, supported by physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers, in an environment that recognises the particular needs of patients and their families. It provides expertise in controlling pain and other distressing symptoms as well as offering emotional, spiritual and social care, which allows patients to live as normal a life as possible. They treat patients from the age of eighteen years and upwards.
